My story so far…
I was born in 2006, Germany. When I was eleven, we moved to Italy. This change was tough since I didn’t speak the language and struggled to make friends. I found my refuge in Anime. I connected with its characters and stories so deeply that I eventually asked my mother for a graphics tablet which became my first means for learning how to draw.
At school, my teachers encouraged my work. I taught myself digital illustration through practice and online tutorials. In middle-school I once send my art teacher an illustration I had made, she showered me with praise which was very encouraging. I was so excited that I went straight back to drawing. At around fifteen years old I spend almost all my waking hours after school obsessing over improving my drawings.
However when I was seventeen years old, I burned out. I began chasing some notion of success I had planted in my head which made me lose the joy in creating. That’s when I knew I had to change something, so I tried oil painting, but at first it felt messy and unfamiliar, so I put it aside.
A year later, plein-air painting brought me back. I had always been fascinated with adventure and explorations from travel to graffiti and urban exploration. I built my first pochade box from whatever was lying around in my brother’s shed, cutting it by hand. It was clunky, but it worked. I began carrying it everywhere, on family trips, through my city, and into the fields near home. Painting outdoors brought art and exploration together, and helped me rediscover why I wanted to paint.
Today, I experience and document the places I live in and travel to through painting, bringing pieces of the world to others. My ultimate goal , is to make a portrait of the world.
Currently I’m exploring Bologna.
